Jason Nash scored on the first play of the game on a 54-yard pass to
Corey Petro. The defense took over from there by recovering a
fumble and snagging four interceptions as the Rebels dominated North
Crowley 23-0 in Grande Communications Stadium.
The game got off to a good start for the
Rebels when Petro returned the opening kickoff to Lee's 46-yard
line. Petro caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Nash on the following
play, giving the Rebels a 7-0 lead with 30 seconds off the clock. Matt
Zamora ended the Panthers' first drive with an interception. Defensive
end Josey Childs sacked quarterback Jared Williams later in the first
quarter, causing a fumble that Michael Nelson recovered, leading to
Lee's second TD. Jered Groner, Casey Forga and Adam Votaw also
picked off passes for the Rebels.
Amiuel Carr scored the game's second
touchdown on a seven-yard run shortly after Nelson's fumble recovery.
Forga returned his interception for 43 yards to North Crowley's
40-yard-line, and Petro followed 11 plays later with a one-yard
touchdown run. Zach Starnes provided the scoring of the second
half when he nailed a 23-yard field goal.
