AMARILLO, TX – Dick Bivins Stadium hosted the slugfest between the Lee Rebels and Amarillo Palo Duro Dons on Friday afternoon. The second installment of the 2011 Rebel Road Report is in the books. The Rebels made the proper halftime adjustments and had no problem rolling over the Dons, 42-21.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Rebels drew first blood on a time consuming drive that Darian Long capped off with a 6-yard touchdown run. The Dons suffered a three-and-out, which was answered by another Lee score. Talor Nunez setup a screen pass to Travis Williams, which the senior running back utilized as an opportunity to increase the Rebel lead to 14-0. Williams made it into the end zone from 27 yards out. The Dons weren’t giving up and got on the scoreboard with a 23-yard TD pass to narrow the gap to 14-7. Palo Duro looked as if it might tie the game just before the half. With four seconds left, the Dons quarterback threw for the end zone but Darian Long intercepted the ball to snuff out the threat.

The third quarter witnessed both team trade punches, as the Rebels and Dons each added a touchdown to the scoreboard. Lee took control of the fourth quarter, behind Williams and Jason McAfee. Williams ended the game with a 102 rushing and 27 receiving yards – including two touchdowns. McAfee had 97 yards on 12 carries and was credited with scoring three touchdowns. The defense stood up when they needed to, denying the Dons twice inside the red zone. Talmage Cockerell, Skyler Estrella, and Long each came away with an interception during the game. The Rebels finally get to play back in Grande next week against Amarillo High.
