MIDLAND, TX – Billed as Midland Lee’s “first real opponent of 2011”, the Rebels accepted the challenge and swept the Amarillo Sandies out of Grande Communications Stadium on Friday night. Live updates of the 26-10 Rebel victory was televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
After commiting a turnover on just the second play of the game, Lee watched Amarillo High convert that into the game’s first seven points five plays later. On the ensuing drive, Lee marched the ball down the field and scored behind three running plays by Travis Williams. The drive was capped off on a short touchdown run by Jason McAfee. The extra point was no good and the Rebels trailed 7-6. Two possessions later, Amarillo added three more points to the scoreboard to extend their lead to 10-6 at the end of the first quarter.
